January 2025 Edition: Reflecting on 2024 and Looking Ahead

2024 was a blur, and 2025 is gearing up to be much of the same! It is unbelievable that we have already come to the end of the first month of the year. As we step forward, it is only fitting to pause and reflect on the remarkable journey of the past year—a year that was filled with achievements, milestones, and moments that defined our Association.
A Year of Growth and Progress
2024 marked a significant period in the evolution of ALEVS. As we celebrated 50 years of our Association under the theme “ALEVS at 50: Holistic, Sustainable, and Thriving,” we reaffirmed our commitment to professionalism, sustainability, and growth.
Among our notable accomplishments was the strengthening of our digital presence. Our website has become more than just an informational hub—it has become a platform for engagement, allowing the public to interact with us, lodge concerns, and facilitate international collaborations. The increasing global recognition of ALEVS underscores the value and impact of our work. We are working towards having our active members displayed on the site to increase their engagement with the public.
We also made tangible contributions to national policies that shape the future of our industry. Through active engagement with the Fair Trading Commission, the Housing Policy Development Committee, the Construction Industry Council, and the Land Divestment Committee, we ensured that our profession’s voice was heard in critical discussions affecting land economy and valuation.
A Night of Celebration and Giving Back: 50th Anniversary Dinner and Awards
None of our achievements would be possible without the unwavering support of our members and partners. We came out STRONG and the pictures are a testament to us communicating the vision and members running with it! I extend my deepest gratitude to all who contributed to the success of our 50th Anniversary Dinner and Chair Drive. Your generosity and dedication have reinforced the strength of our ALEVS community.
Special thanks to the Planning Committee, led by Mrs. Thaelia Miller McZenna, for organizing such a memorable evening. It was a fitting tribute to the legacy of ALEVS and a celebration of our shared commitment to excellence. Our Guest Speaker, Professor Floyd Morris challenged us to think about how embracing technology can prepare us for a sustainable future.
To our awardees, (Mr. Lloyd Davis, Mr. Carl Francis, Mr. Ransford Wedderburn, and Mr. Kenneth Allison—pillars of our profession and Mr. Easton Douglas (post-humously), Mr. Clinton Cunningham, Mrs. Cadien Stuart, and Mr. Ryan Taylor), congratulations! Your dedication and contributions to our field and the Association are truly commendable.
We hosted partners, and stakeholders—including the National Housing Trust, the Real Estate Board, and the Land Surveyors Association of Jamaica—whose continued trust and support are invaluable.
Looking Ahead: 2025 and Beyond
As we embark on 2025, we are energized by the momentum of last year’s successes. We have ambitious plans, including:
✅ Training on Data Privacy – Ensuring our members are equipped to navigate this critical area.
✅ ALEVS Meet the Students and Branding Event – Strengthening our engagement with the next generation of valuers.
✅ Work towards Implementation of the ALEVS Constitution – Solidifying our governance framework for the future.
Our focus remains on sustainability, professional development, and enhanced collaboration. We will continue to champion industry growth and ensure that ALEVS remains a trusted authority in land economy and valuation.
Here’s to a future that is holistic, sustainable, and thriving!
