ALEVS Month Call to Action

Updated: Oct 4, 2023

"In Holistic Pursuit of a Sustainable Future"

ree

In our last term, a common thread throughout all our events and initiatives was the importance of sustainability and the need for a holistic approach to it. Our webinars pointed to the need for localized efforts and indigenous thinking in local practice and in meeting global standards. Likewise, our passing of the Constitution and Code of Ethical Conduct highlighted the importance of us managing our internal operations and external relationships to sustain the profession. Unfortunately, there are still members of the public and even in private sector entities that use our services, who face challenges in understanding our duties and capabilities. As such, in addition to the Training Initiatives surrounding the Implementation of the Constitution, we are also focusing this year on increasing Public Awareness of the Association and by extension, its members and other valuation and real estate professionals.

Why should you participate?

As the UN Sustainable Development Goals indicate, sustainability is much more than the environment. It is about improving living conditions; reducing inequality; eliminating hunger and poverty; ensuring good health and well-being; achieving gender equality; facilitating decent work and economic growth; facilitating collaborations and partnerships towards the shared goals; providing quality education; ensuring clean water and sanitation, sustainable cities, responsible consumption and production and affordable and clean energy; and contributing to industry, innovation, and infrastructure.

As our theme, “In holistic pursuit of a sustainable future” indicates, sustaining the valuation profession and by extension, ALEVS, undoubtedly requires a holistic approach. Our efforts cannot continue to be siloed nor can they overlook the glaring lacunas in practice, technical standards, knowledge, regulation nor collaboration towards shared goals. This month we seek to demonstrate our individual and collective commitment to a sustainable future for the profession. The work cannot be done without your help. Each event that we have slated aligns well with one of the UN SDGs and have their own sub-theme indicating their contributions to our efforts in holistic pursuit.

Call to Action

I have heard the many talks of the days gone by when the ALEVS Forefathers (and Foremothers, I daresay!) joined together to get things done. I have heard the nostalgia and the pride and have seen and benefitted from the fruits of this work. Indeed, many of our industry accomplishments were birthed from those actions. Here is OUR opportunity to Bridge the Gap in pursuing our Sustainable Future. There are several activities scheduled for the month and your participation in at least 2 events will go a far way. I would like to bring to your attention two such events that are dear to my heart and offer tangible opportunities for your support.

Please consider joining us at the ALEVS Meet the Students event on October 19, 2023, 3:00 to 5:00 pm where we will have 2 hours during the Student Activity Time to interact with students who have chosen this noble profession. Your presence will be invaluable to impacting a college student’s life.

On October 25, 2023, we will visit at least one school outside of the urban area to share with students who are less likely to have heard about the profession. This will give the opportunity for One-on-One talks and inspirational sharing to impact the life of a child.

Our other events also appeal to the whole person. Plant a tree throughout the month. Join us in worship on October 8, 2023. Wear Pink on October 13, 2023. Lyme with us at Summit House on October 26, 2023. Join the Live to improve Awareness on October 31, 2023.

We are “In holistic pursuit of a sustainable future”. Are you?
