A rich and engaging discussion are the words that best describe last night's session dealing with the Proposed Code of Ethical Conduct.
President Williamson opened the session and welcomed the attendees. The invocation, led by Rochelle Channer Miller involved a scriptural reminder of the admonition to maintain justice and that the goal and aims for our organization to stand for justice and equity starts from a place of morality which need not be connected to one's spirituality.
Dr. Tina Beale presented the main considerations covered in the Code of Ethical Conduct after which, a vibrant discussion ensued. Key areas covered by the presentation included the Scope/ Boundaries; Client Care; Confidentiality; Conflicts of Interest; Professional Competence & Due Care; Professional Practice and Duties to Real Estate Professionals.
The Question and Answer Session covered the potential procedural changes that firms would need to meet to the standards, such as changes to staffing, client relations and management and data management. The discussion also lingered for a while on pricing mechanisms and fee structures and the potential for changes that would auger well for the profession.
What was clear from this session was that there is the need for more knowledge sharing and discourse and that the Association is poised as a trailblazer in the local real estate arena.
